Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 8, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Onze("we", "us"), operated by Split Step Labs LLC, collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website and game at play-onze.com (the "Service"). It should be read together with our Terms of Service.
1. Scope and your agreement
This Privacy Policy explains how Split Step Labs LLC ("Split Step Labs", "we", "us", "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use Onze and its website at play-onze.com (the "Service"). By using the Service, you acknowledge this Privacy Policy. Where required by law, we rely on your consent (for example, for advertising and analytics cookies), which you provide through our consent banner or device controls.
2. Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Information stored on your device. Your game progress — streak, stats, collected stickers, unlocked items, fandom level, selected country, settings, and any backup code — is saved in your browser's local storage. This stays on your device and is not, by itself, transmitted to us with your identity. Clearing your browser data deletes it.
- Information you provide. If you choose to save your streak or subscribe to updates, we collect the email address you submit. If you select a country to theme the game, that choice may be sent with anonymous results. If you contact us, we receive the information in your message.
- Gameplay and usage data. When you finish a game, we may record anonymous, non-identifying results — such as mode, difficulty, whether you won or lost, the number of guesses, and an optional country — to power leaderboards and community statistics. These are aggregated and are not linked to your identity.
- Automatically collected technical data. Like virtually all websites, we and our providers automatically collect technical information such as IP address, device and browser type, operating system, language, approximate location derived from IP, referring and exit pages, the pages and ads you view, and timestamps, through cookies, SDKs, pixels, and server logs.
- Information from third parties. Our advertising and analytics partners may collect or provide information about your interactions in order to serve and measure ads and to provide analytics.
3. How we use information
We use information to:
- Provide, operate, maintain, and improve the Service and its features;
- Power leaderboards, community statistics, and your saved progress;
- Serve, target, cap, and measure advertising, including personalized advertising where permitted;
- Send emails you have requested, such as streak reminders or updates, which you can unsubscribe from at any time;
- Maintain security, prevent fraud and abuse, and enforce our Terms;
- Understand usage through analytics; and
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
We and our partners use cookies, local storage, device identifiers, pixels, and similar technologies. These fall into broad categories: strictly necessary (to run the Service), analytics (to understand usage), and advertising (to deliver and measure ads, including personalized ads). You can control cookies through your browser settings and, where applicable, through the consent choices presented in our consent banner. Because there is no common industry standard, we do not currently respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals, but we honor recognized opt-out preference signals (such as Global Privacy Control) where legally required.
5. Advertising and your choices
Onze is free and supported by advertising. We work with third-party advertising partners, which may include Google AdSense, Ezoic, and Google's advertising products for web and games (such as rewarded and interstitial ads). These partners and their networks may use cookies and identifiers to serve and measure ads, including personalized ads based on your activity on this and other sites and apps.
In the EEA, the UK, and other regions that require it, advertising and non-essential cookies are used only in line with the consent choices you make in our consent banner. You can withdraw or change your consent at any time. You can also opt out of personalized advertising using the industry tools below:
Google Ads Settings · How Google uses your data · Ezoic Privacy · NAI opt-out (US) · DAA opt-out (US) · Your Online Choices (EU)
6. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information for money. We share information only as follows:
- Service providers. We use trusted providers to operate the Service — including website hosting, our database provider (Supabase), email delivery, analytics, and the advertising partners described above. They process information only as needed to provide their services to us.
- Advertising partners. Advertising partners receive certain information (such as identifiers, IP-derived data, and ad interactions) to serve and measure ads. Under some U.S. state privacy laws, the use of advertising cookies to show you personalized ads may be considered a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information; you can opt out as described in Section 5 and Section 7.
- Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law or legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users, the public, or us.
- Business transfers. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
- Aggregated or de-identified data. We may share information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you.
7. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights regarding your personal information. To exercise them, email us at support@play-onze.com; we may need to verify your request.
EEA / UK (GDPR): rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to processing, data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. Our legal bases are consent (advertising and email), legitimate interests (operating, securing, and improving the Service and basic analytics), and legal obligation.
California (CCPA/CPRA): rights to know, access, delete, and correct your personal information, to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information and of targeted advertising, to limit the use of sensitive personal information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising your rights. You can opt out of personalized advertising using the tools in Section 5 or by emailing us; we also honor the Global Privacy Control signal.
Other U.S. states (such as Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, and others): rights to access, correct, delete, obtain a copy of, and opt out of targeted advertising and certain profiling, consistent with applicable law.
You can also delete locally-stored game data at any time by clearing your browser's storage, and unsubscribe from emails using the link in any email or by contacting us.
8. International data transfers
We are based in the United States, and information we and our providers process may be stored and processed in the United States and other countries that may have different data-protection laws than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for international transfers.
9. Data retention
We keep personal information only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy, to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Anonymous and aggregated data (such as leaderboard counts) may be retained indefinitely. Email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
10. Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where a higher age of digital consent applies), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us at support@play-onze.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete it. We do not knowingly serve personalized advertising to children.
11. Data security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Third-party links
The Service contains advertising and links to third-party sites and services (including affiliate links). We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above, and material changes may be highlighted in the Service. Your continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
14. Contact us
If you have questions or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or your personal information, contact Split Step Labs LLC at support@play-onze.com.
